It would be a very rare person who has not heard of Bonsai Plants or Bonsai trees. Originating in China many centuries ago, Bonsai plants were taken up with a vengeance by the Japanese who perfected the techniques of miniaturizing some of their standard trees and turned the skill into an art form. Gradually the rest of the world has become captivated by Bonsai plants and the techniques have spread to the home gardener and hobbyist.

Native to Japan the Kingsville Boxwood is an extremely slow growing tree. It has the smallest leaf of all Boxwoods which is why it is sought after for bonsai. The Kingsville Boxwood is an evergreen tree with light green leaves and has excellent branching charachteristics. A great indoor bonsai recommended by the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.

There is much to learn, there is much to practice... but the pay off is priceless. Once you have had some small successes with your Bonsai plants you are in danger of becoming addicted! But then so what! There are far worse things in this world to become addicted to than the harmless and beautiful world of Bonsai plants.

However before you can loose yourself in this type of meditation you need to learn some basic skills, select the type of Bonsai plants that you want to grow and set yourself up with some good quality Bonsai supplies. There is ample Bonsai literature available both for the beginner and the experienced and your Bonsai plants will look even more beautiful in an interesting pot and perhaps on a display table.

Native to Japan, the scale-like leaves are bright green during spring and summer and slighly dull green in fall and winter. Lower branches are shed when the tree is young, revealing reddish-brown bark that peels in long strips. Inner branches often die out , encouraging new growth with annual pruning. It has a round or pyramidal growth habit and is extremely hardy. It has a very slow growth rate which is why it is hard to find. Evergreen keep outdoors.
